Spokane Wins Championship

By Donna DeYoung, October 4, 2010

This just in, I heard on Saturday that Spokane won the Five and Six Year Old Stallion Class (Section 10 ANCCE) at the Andalusian-Lusitano Alliance U.S. Grand National Championship Show in St. Louis, Missouri, held September 28 to 39, 2010. Spokane was shown in the Pura Raza Espanola (PRE) Division (ANCCE – Authorized Morphology and Functionality Competition) and was judged by Florencio Moreno Moreno of Spain. This division requires horses to be presented in a halter class as well as to be ridden under saddle for judging. All horses being shown in this class must be revised by Spain. Spokane was ridden by Vic Pozzo, nationally renowned Andalusian horse trainer.

Spokane was born in 2005 at Jackass Mountain Ranch and was bred by Ami MacHugh in Washington (2006 IALHA Breeder of the Year). He is currently owned by Guerra’s Andalusians & Aztecas in Texas. Spokane is revised and has his “apto basico” registration papers from Spain. He is the son of multi-champion stallion and sire of champions Kianto (by Genio III) and out of the Costa Rican National Champion import Nostalgia II.

Spokane was already a three-time National Champion winner including:

- 2008 Foundation for the Pure Spanish Horse National Champion

- 3-Year Old Stallion, 2007 IALHA Grand National Champion Spanish Colt

- 2006 Foundation National Champion Yearling Colt

- 2006 winner of the Andalusian Yearling Colt Class and Best Medal for Movement at the IALHA Festival of the Andalusian Show

- Reserve winner in the Two and Under Colt Class at the IALHA Festival of the Andalusian Show

- Overall Reserve Champion at the IALHA Festival of the Andalusian Show Colt of the show.

In the spring of 2010, Galaxia DD II was bred to Spokane and the result was Sapporo. Galaxia herself is a daughter of Keberes D (National Champion Jr Spanish Mare) and is a full sister to Destinada DD who won the National Champion 2 & Under Spanish Filly class at IALHA Nationals and the 2 & Under Spanish Filly class and gold medal for movement at the IALHA SWALHC Texas regional show. Galaxia’s sire Remate II is a three-time National Champion Stallion (Sr. Stallion, Best Movement, Driving) and is owned by Terri Meador of Herradura Andalusians (2005 IALHA Breeder of the Year). Galaxia was rebred to Spokane and produced the colt Notorio DD in the spring of 2013.
