Pin Oak Andalusian Horse Show Results - 2006

By Donna DeYoung

Summary of a Small Andalusian Horse Show – Statistics on Numbers of Andalusian Horses and Owners - Who Showed Up for the PRE Classes and Who Showed in IALHA?

Summary

The turnout at the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show in Katy, Texas (near Houston) was small. The show was held March 22 – 25, 2006. The Judge was Judith Warner. In addition to the normal International Andalusian and Lusitano Horse Association (IALHA) classes, Pura Raza Espanola (PRE) classes were held as well.

NOTE that if you choose to view the show results (in PDF form) at the IALHA website, you will only see the results from the normal IALHA classes and not the PRE classes! This is because the PRE classes were NOT sanctioned by IALHA but were held by the Foundation for the Pure Spanish Horse and were approved by Spain. If you want to see results from ALL the classes offered for Andalusian horses at Pin Oak, click here.

The next IALHA and PRE combined show to be held in Texas is the upcoming Southwest Andalusian & Lusitano Horse Club (SWALHC) show at Waco, Texas. Since come of the “big time” trainers and owners already earned their qualifying status at Pin Oak, it is predicted that the turnout at Waco could be even smaller.

Entries - or Lack Of

At Pin Oak in 2006, there were 79 total IALHA class entries and 41 IALHA classes offered. Seven classes (Half-Andalusian Best Movement, Half-Andalusian Costume, Andalusian Stallions Amateur to Handle, Andalusian Western Pleasure Amateur, Half Andalusian Western Pleasure, Half Andalusian Native Tack, and Doma Vaquera) had no horses entered.

Need to Qualify for Nationals? Just Show Up at Pin Oak

This was a great show if you wanted to qualify to compete in Nationals. In order to qualify to compete on a “National” level at the fall IALHA National Championships, you must win first, second, or third in a qualifying show.

Thirty-four IALHA classes at Pin Oak had 3 or less Andalusian horses showing (guaranteeing your horse would qualify for Nationals). Six classes had 4 or more Andalusian horses entered with the most in one class being 6 (Andalusian English Pleasure Hunt Seat Junior Horse). The average number of entries in each class was less than 2 horses.

How Many Andalusian (and/or Lusitano) Horses Showed Up

There were 34 horses (31 purebred Andalusians/Lusitanos and 3 half-Andalusians) showing in the IALHA classes. 28 of these horses showed in 3 classes or less. Six horses showed in 4 classes or more. The most shown horses in the IALHA classes were Brianna MGP (8 classes), Embeloso MC (9 classes), and Esperado XXVII (7 classes).

The PRE classes had 39 Spanish horses showing in about 19 classes – an average of 2 horses per class. Seven classes had no entries. The PRE 3 year old filly class had the most entries with 6 horses.

Who Owns These Andalusian Horses?

The 79 entries and 34 horses shown in the IALHA classes were entered by 19 different Andalusian horse owners. That’s roughly 4 entries and 2 horses per owner. Twelve owners had 3 or less horses at the show.

The Andalusian horse owner with the most entries was Francine Dismukes (showing 4 horses and having 19 entries). Taking second place with the most entries was Eloise Pearl (showing 2 horses with 12 entries).

The 39 horses in the PRE classes were owned by 10 different Spanish horse owners. That’s roughly 4 horses per owner. All the owners had between 1 and 4 horses competing with the exception of Skelton Mountain Dream Ranch (SMDR) which had 8 horses competing in the PRE classes.

Three owners (SMDR, Spanhel, and Teasley) showed horses only in the PRE classes; while all the other PRE owners showed in PRE classes as well as IALHA classes. The 3 owners showing only in the PRE classes had 12 horses entered.

Who Won?

The champion IALHA stallion was Andaluz-ANG 1 (reserve was Thales Interagro).

The champion IALHA mare was Hiedra SA (reserve was Ilusion MHF).

The PRE champion stallion was Saltador ORO and the reserve was Odilon JIM.

The PRE champion mare was Belleza SMDR and reserve was Ganadora SMDR.
