Dressage: Since many of my customers are dressage-oriented, I have made it a priority to study dressage with highly skilled trainers. I have studied dressage under Kass Lockhart (L judge and USDF silver medalist) and with Vereena Diaz (German rider) at the North Texas Equestrian Center for dressage horses. In addition, I have placed Keberes in dressage training, taken lessons on both Keberes and Nobleza as well as other Andalusian horses in dressage, and trained and showd an American Warmblood in open USDF dressage competition. I also trained with Claire Morrow of Pilot Point and have attended numerous horsemanship clinics.

Education: I attended magnet schools for the gifted in elementary and middle school, and took Advanced Placement classes in high school. As an undergrad at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, I was a Pre-Vet/Animal Science major. I graduated with honors with a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Science Education. I received my Master's Degree in Zoology (Environmental Science emphasis) from Oklahoma State University. My thesis was on developmental toxicology (embryology) and species toxicity differences. My college coursework has included biology, microbiology, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, animal genetics, feeds and rations, large animal management, pharmacology, physiology, cellular physiology, statistics, and anatomy.

Professional Breed Experience - I have a life-time experience with horses including apprenticeships and working situations with American Saddlebred, hunter-jumper, Andalusian, Cutting Horse, Paint Horses, and Quarter Horse trainers and instructors.  Experienced with the equestrian disciplines of Hunter Jumper, Saddleseat Equitation, Western Pleasure, Dressage, Endurance Riding, Trail Riding, Pleasure Riding, English Equitation, Bareback Riding, and Colt Starting.

Showing: Competed in Saddlebred shows, competitive trail rides with Arabians, National Championship and Regional Andalusian horse shows, open shows with Peruvian Pasos and Andalusians (hunter jumper, English and western pleasure, trail, and halter), team penning with quarter horses, and AERC endurance riding with Arabians and other breeds.

Clinics: Attended various clinics ranging from Doma Vaquera (Spanish Reining and Garrocha) to Natural Horsemanship to Training for Spook Control.

Training: I began my professional career with horses as an assistant riding lesson instructor at age 14. When I was 16 years old, I was a weekend horse farm manager and trained my first horse (a wild mustang). Later, in grad school, I acquired a palomino Quarter Horse and trained her for mounted patrol. I worked for several trainers in Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Texas. I trained horses for Denham Ranch for several years and have trained my own Andalusian horses. I was also a private trainer for a herd of Peruvian horses in Denton, Texas. Former full-time rider and trainer for Alpha & Omega Mounted Patrol and Opryland Mounted Patrol Former full-time draft horse carriage driver, tour operator, and farm manager.

Professional Equestrian Experience - I have worked full-time with horses several times in my life. I was a full-time rider and trainer for Alpha & Omega Mounted Patrol in Dallas, Texas and Opryland Mounted Patrol in Nashville, Tennessee. I also worked as a full-time draft horse carriage driver, tour operator, and farm manager for a carriage company out of Dallas, Texas. In addition, I've worked at various dude ranches and have given riding lessons.

Is Training and Raising Horses Your Full-Time Career?

I'm asked this question alot. Although I wish I could do horses full-time, I actually have a career in the environmental sciences field. I am a project manager for an environmental consulting firm.  I have over 20 years of work experience including water and wastewater, toxicology, fish and wildlife surveys, threatened and endangered species, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), environmental site assessments, environmental remediation, building inspections, hazardous waste, emergency response, natural resource assessments, and wetlands and waters of the U.S.
